How should the media report on people with disabilities?

Society in general, and the media in particular, should take care to use the correct terminology when reporting on persons with disabilities.

The use of appropriate terminology is necessary in order to respect the dignity of this segment of society, but at the same time it serves as an educational tool for all.

Organizations of persons with disabilities recently signed a memorandum with the Independent Media Commission (IMC), with the aim of raising media awareness of the correct terminology for persons with disabilities.

UNESCO has published the Manual for Media and Persons with Disabilities. You can find it here.

Meanwhile, the Ethical Code of the Kosovo Press Council, which contains the basic principles of journalism, can be found here in both, Albanian (Kodi Shqip)  and Serbian (Kod -Srpski) language.
