In an urgent online decision-making, members of the Press Council of Kosovo (PCK) have
strongly condemned the statement of the Vice President of the Independent Media Commission,
Drita Morina, who, without any support in the IMC Code of Ethics, has announced the closure of
the “Debat Plus” show on RTV Dukagjini.
As media professionals, we believe that independent bodies should be very careful when
handling SLAPP-type complaints against the media, especially when they are filed by exponents
of political parties.
The PCK calls on the IMC to maintain its independence and judge fairly, in accordance with the
standards of the IMC Code of Ethics. The PCK also calls on the members of the IMC to refrain
from reckless and unfounded statements about the quality of reporting in the country’s media.
Such alarmist and unfounded statements constitute direct pressure on freedom of expression and
media freedom.
The PCK calls on other members of the IMC to publicly distance themselves from such
initiatives, which seriously affect media freedom in the country.
