Chapter VI of the Kosovo Press Code very clearly defines reporting on minors in cases where they are victims, witnesses, or when they are suspected or perpetrators of inappropriate acts, including criminal offenses.
The Code defines that: newspapers, portals and news agencies shall in no way identify children under the age of 18 who are involved in criminal offenses, whether as witnesses or defendants.
The handling of stories about personal tragedies must be conducted with care, while individuals affected by tragedy must be approached with understanding and discretion.
The media should not publish information that reveals the identity of minors involved in various cases.
Also, the publication of circumstantial facts can easily reveal the identity of minors. Therefore, in any case, the media must first be careful not to disclose any facts or circumstances that lead to the identification of minors, and then the event must be published according to the ethical rules of the written and online media.
The disclosure of circumstantial facts can very easily lead to the discovery of the identity of minors and, consequently, consequences for the lives of children and their families.
