Press Council decides on 10 complaints

The Press Council of Kosovo (PCK) in its regular meeting reviewed a total of 10 complaints.

 

 

The PCK Assembly members decided to approve one of them, partially approve two, reject four
and declare three inadmissible.

 

The complaints concerned allegations of violations of certain chapters of the Kosovo Press Code,
namely Chapter II – Reporting the Truth, Chapter IV – Right to Reply and Chapter VII – Privacy
and Protection of Sources.

 

The Press Council of Kosovo has approved the complaint of Ukë Zenuni against
Ulpianapress.net for the videos titled “Dobërqani Water Cures 12 Diseases”, respectively “A
Blind Girl Has Regained Her Sight After Standing in This Water”, finding that Chapter II of the
Kosovo Press Code (which deals with reporting the truth), has been violated.

 

The Kosovo Press Council has partially approved the complaint of Medi Premium, represented
by Albert Halilaj against Veriu.info for the article entitled “‘Evening bazaar’ with unauthorized
constructions of the Bedri Hamza government in the days of the transition of power to Faton
Peci”, finding that Chapter IV (which deals with the right to reply) was violated, but not chapters
II and IIa of the Kosovo Press Code, which deal with reporting the truth, namely fake news, as
claimed by the complaining party.

 

The PCK has partially approved the complaint of Marigona Kastrati, represented by lawyer
Taulant Ferizi, against KlanKosova.tv and Demokracia.com for the articles with the titles
“Terrible: 6-year-old from Fushë Kosova accuses teacher of offensive language (Video)”,
“Conflict in the schoolyard, teacher and mother of 6-year-old in Fushë Kosova are ‘caught’
(Video)”, “6-year-old from Fushë Kosova accuses teacher of offensive language”, “Teacher in
Fushë Kosova boasts of connections in the police, parents claim that she bullied their son
(Video)”, “Teacher in Fushë Kosova asks for time to respond to accusations of bullying (Video)”,
“30 mothers gather in the schoolyard, threaten KIKS journalist (Video)”, ““Teacher deals with
women’s talk, students cannot read and write” (Video)”, finding that chapters II and IV of the
Kosovo Press Code (which deal with reporting the truth namely the right to reply) have been
violated, ,but not Chapter VII, which deals with privacy, as the complaining party claims.

 

The PCK has not approved (rejected) the complaint of Ganimete Musliu against Rajoni.org for
the article titled “‘Municipality of Skenderaj rewards with tender the business ‘close’ to
Ganimete Musliu and PDK’”, finding that Chapter II of the Kosovo Press Code (which deals
with reporting the truth), was not violated, as claimed by the complaining party.

 

The PCK has not approved (rejected) the complaint of KEDS, represented by Dërguti Law Firm
against Buletiniekonomik.com for the article titled “Tender scheme with two companies
suspected of being close to KEDS bosses”, finding that Chapters II and IIa of the Kosovo Press
Code (which deal with reporting the truth, respectively fake news), were not violated, as claimed
by the complaining party.

 

The PCK has not approved (rejected) the complaint of Valon Krasniqi against Sinjali.com for the
article entitled “Exclusive | Fraud in public procurement in Gjilan – suspicions of forged
documents and expired ISO certificates (Name)”, finding that Chapter II of the Kosovo Press
Code (which deals with reporting the truth), was not violated, as claimed by the complaining
party.

 

The PCK has not approved (rejected) the complaint of Telekom Kosovo against Klankosova.tv
for the article entitled “Scandalous! – Telekom Kosovo employees blocked access to
Klankosova.tv”, finding that Chapters II and IV of the Kosovo Press Code (which deal with
reporting the truth, namely the right to reply), were not violated, as claimed by the complaining
party.

 

The PCK has declared inadmissible the complaint of Ilir Kiçmari against Gazetademos.com for a
video published on the social network Facebook, finding that the video was not found on the
relevant media profile on the social network and, consequently, was not processed.

 

The PCK has declared inadmissible the complaint of Bastri Ademi against Indeksonline.net for
the article titled “Two operators’ complaint was rejected by the PRB, after they submitted a
forged document”, finding that the article was not found in the relevant media and, consequently,
was not processed.

 

 

The PCK has declared inadmissible the complaint of Aurora Mulhaxha against Sinjali.com and
Ballkani.info for four articles published during 2020, finding that it does not have the
competence to request the media to remove the articles, but recommending the party to address
the Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP), respectively the competent court.

The PCK has accepted the online media outlet Klankosova.tv as the 49th media outlet to be part
of this self-regulatory body.
